Fall 2012 Trend Report (Part I)

With the fall season fast-approaching I thought this was the best time to share with you my trend report for the coming fall/winter season. Having reviewed almost every single fashion show and having read numerous trend reports, these are what I think will be the most popular and wearable trends.

We’ve worn the leather jackets, blazers and Burberry-inspired trenchcoats for some time now. This season however, everything is bigger. Forget about fitted jackets or belted trenchcoats. Now it’s all about oversized, chunky coats that offer endless comfort.

Seen at: Balenciaga, Chloé, Céline, Comme des Garçons, Emilio Pucci, Diane von Furstenberg, Jil Sander, Victoria Beckham.

Every girl loves sequins. Whether we admit it or not we do like the attention that a sequined dress or any type of sequined garment gives us. For f/w that sparking effect is created thanks to rich embellishments and gold- or silver-threaded brocades. Probably the most popular trend this season.

Seen at: Balmain, Marchesa, Dolce & Gabbana, Jason Wu, Dries Van Noten, Marni, Aquilano.Rimondi, Salvatore Ferragamo, Zac Posen, Ralph Lauren.

From military jackets, to military-inspired dresses, this trend is seen both in terms of colours - khaki - and in terms of design details on the garments.

My personal favourite trend this fall season. Everyone is used to wearing white during summer, especially when there is a bit of tan there to emphasise the contrast. But in my opinion white coats, jumpers, oversized knits and dresses just add a sense of luxe and comfort beyond compare.

I’m quite certain that just from the sub-heading you have already rolled your eyes and said “no way". Well I dare you to think again. Just think how many of us would wear prints four years ago. Not many. And yet these past couple of years prints are everywhere and mixed and matched in the most unusual ways. So why not take it to the next level like the looks that Giambattista Valli, Miu Miu and Prada have shown at their fashion shows? Now it’s all about wearing the same print from head to toe.

TIP: If you decide to give this trend a try, remember to keep everything else (like your shoes or bag) in neutral or solid colours to keep the whole look classy.

Set aside your fur coats, fur hats or in general garments or accessories that were completely made out of fur. For this winter season fur is placed with great detail on sleeves, belts and trims to accentuate the elegance of the garments.
